Karibu! Welcome to Hope Through Opportunity!

We are a California non-profit that is currently working with the people of the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania, East Africa to help them create and sustain a better future. Hope Through Opportunity was founded in 1998 by Alice Hiatt, R.N. and Simon P. Mtuy with the goal to help bring hope and opportunity to the people of Tanzania and Africa. We are a grass roots organization, with no middle men, and as you will see we have done many amazing projects to help the people of Tanzania and look forward to accomplishing even more in the future with your continued and gracious support.

Breaking News...

March 2008: Our goal for 2007 was to fill and deliver one 40 ft cargo container full of medical and humanitarian supplies.  This required not only monetary donations but also donations of items from our huge wish list. 

WOW and a BIG THANKYOU to our supporters!  Due to your support and others like you, we were able to not only fill and ship one 40 ft container but also able to send a second one completely filled with much needed medicine and medical supplies!  Crocs donated 2400 sandals, Direct Relief International donated an entire 40 ft container of medical supplies, we even had a couple of schools in California adopt schools in the village to provide much needed educational supplies.  Both of the containers set sail late October/Early November.

December 30th we began our Hope Through Opportunity Kilimanjaro Charity Climb. After the climb, the supplies in the containers were distributed to Huruma Hospital, Mbahe and Komela Primary Schools and to families in need.
